NTI was established in 1976 by the Federal Government of Nigeria as a service delivery parastatal of the Federal Ministry of Education to produce qualified teachers that will meet the needs of the Universal Primary Education (UPE). NTI was charged by Law/Act No.7 of 1978 to provide courses of instruction leading to the development, upgrading and certification of teachers as specified in the relevant syllabus in Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE), Bachelor Degree in Education (B.ED) and National Certificate in Education (NCE) and Pivotal Teachers Training Program (PTTP) Modibbo (2006). According to the Revised National policy on Education (2014) one of the objectives of NTI is to provide access to quality education and equity in educational opportunities for those who otherwise would have been denied. In order to achieve the above objective, the library plays significant role by providing useful Information Resources to support teaching, learning and research.
